Huntsville, Ala. – November 3, 2008 - The Schools Foundation announces the award of a $750 scholarship to Raymona King Bevel, assistant principal at New Hope K-8 and New Hope High School in Madison County.   This is the first year of an endowed annual scholarship made possible through a joint effort of Regions Bank and The Schools Foundation.

“We are committed to the support of public education in our local community”, said Ron Poteat, North Alabama Regional Executive for Regions. “This endowed scholarship for principals and assistant principals will help with tuition costs for educators who are working toward an advanced degree.  We know this is a good investment in our community.”
The Schools Foundation Regions School Administrator Scholarship supports the professional growth of public school principals and assistant principals by providing financial assistance for graduate studies leading to an advanced degree. Administrators identify and pursue graduate education opportunities that will have the greatest impact on their practice, the academic lives of their students, and on their school communities.  This scholarship, endowed in 2008 by Regions Bank, provides $750 to help pay for graduate coursework required for an advanced degree.
Applications for this scholarship were open to all principals and assistant principals in schools in Huntsville City Schools, Madison City Schools, and Madison County Schools.

“This grant will really help local school administrators with the rising cost of tuition. We are pleased to partner with Regions to make this annual scholarship possible,” said Debbie Beaupre, Executive Director of the Schools Foundation. “In addition to the administrator scholarship we recently awarded eight (8) scholarships to area teachers. This is what we are all about- building partnerships with local businesses to support initiatives that improve the quality of education,” she said.
